Heading Out East

Yesterday I took a ride out with a friend and her family to Greenport.  The carousel is one of the most popular things to do there.  The kids were so excited to go on this old fashioned ride.  It was $2 per ride or 20 rides for $15.  It was fun to watch the kids on the carousel trying to catch the golden ring and get a free ride.

On the way out we passed the farms and it was great.  The farms and farm stands are open for the fall season.  The pumpkins of all colors and gourds were out on display.  The "U-Pick" were also open for business.  The fall mums are for sale as well.  The apple orchards are operating and selling apples that do not get any fresher than straight from the tree.   It was a beautiful ride along Main Road.  Take a ride out and visit them.  It is a great way to buy locally and to have a fun day outdoors.

We also ate lunch at the Jamesport Country Kitchen.  It is located on Main Road in Jamesport.  It is a small place on the south side of the street.  The menu was great.  Everything was homemade and most things were local.   I had the Turkey Burger topped with avocado mayo, fresh spinach leaves and tomato and a side of fries.  It was pretty cheap at $11.  The kids ordered chicken fingers and fries which was about $7.  The fingers were homemade from real chicken pieces, battered and cooked right in the kitchen.  Nothing processed or unpronounceable.  That came with a homemade honey mustard dipping sauce.   My friend ordered an egg white omelet with spinach and feta for $10.  It came with fries or marinated veggies and she chose the veggies.  The veggies were awesome.  They were local and fresh.  They were cooked so they still had a bit of a crunch to them.  They were marinated in an oil and vinegar sauce that was light and delicious.  I recommend them.  Overall, I would recommend this great place.  The atmosphere is cozy and simple.  There is little decoration and the tables and chairs are pretty basic.  But the food was wonderful, cheap, fresh and local.  If you want a cheap, great quality lunch in a quaint place, check out the Jamesport Country Kitchen.
